About the Company
Element is hiring for a leading diversified business group based in Baghdad, Iraq, with operations across multiple sectors including real estate, construction, hospitality, retail, travel, agriculture, fitness, and other business verticals.
The group is expanding its operations and is looking for an experienced Accounting Manager to oversee accounting activities, financial reporting, controls, and compliance across its business operations.
 
Position Overview
The Accounting Manager will be responsible for managing the day-to-day accounting function, ensuring accurate financial records, timely reporting, strong financial controls, and compliance with applicable Iraqi regulations and accounting standards.
The role will work closely with senior management, finance leadership, auditors, and various business units to provide reliable financial information and support effective financial decision-making.
 
Key Responsibilities
1. Accounting & Financial Management
  • Manage the overall accounting function and day-to-day accounting operations.
  • Ensure accurate recording and classification of all financial transactions.
  • Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, bank reconciliations, and fixed assets.
  • Review journal entries, accruals, provisions, prepayments, and month-end adjustments.
  • Ensure timely and accurate month-end and year-end closing.
2. Financial Reporting
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
  • Prepare management accounts, financial statements, and financial analysis.
  • Monitor revenue, expenses, cash flow, receivables, payables, and working capital.
  • Provide management with financial insights and variance analysis.
  • Ensure reporting is accurate, complete, and delivered within agreed timelines.
3. Multi-Entity Accounting
  • Manage accounting activities across multiple companies/business units within the group.
  • Ensure proper intercompany accounting, reconciliations, and settlements.
  • Monitor transactions between related entities.
  • Support consolidation of financial information across group entities.
  • Maintain consistency in accounting policies and procedures across business units.
4. Budgeting & Financial Controls
  • Support annual budgeting and forecasting processes.
  • Monitor actual performance against budgets and identify significant variances.
  • Establish and maintain effective accounting controls and processes.
  • Identify financial risks and recommend corrective actions.
  • Improve accounting processes, systems, and reporting efficiencies.
5. Audit & Compliance
  • Coordinate with internal and external auditors.
  • Prepare schedules, supporting documents, and reconciliations required for audits.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable Iraqi tax, accounting, and statutory requirements.
  • Maintain proper documentation and financial records.
  • Assist management in implementing audit recommendations.
6. Cash Flow & Working Capital
  • Monitor daily cash positions and banking transactions.
  • Prepare cash flow forecasts.
  • Monitor collections and outstanding receivables.
  • Ensure timely supplier payments and effective management of payables.
  • Work with relevant departments to improve working capital management.
7. Team Management
  • Lead, supervise, and develop the accounting team.
  • Allocate responsibilities and monitor team performance.
  • Review the work of accountants and ensure accuracy of financial transactions.
  • Establish clear accounting procedures and reporting timelines.
  • Train team members on accounting processes and internal controls.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
  • Timely completion of monthly and annual closing.
  • Accuracy and completeness of financial statements.
  • Timely submission of management reports.
  • Reduction in accounting discrepancies and unreconciled balances.
  • Effective management of receivables and payables.
  • Compliance with statutory and internal reporting requirements.
  • Successful completion of internal and external audits.
  • Strengthening of financial controls and accounting processes.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 7–10+ years of relevant accounting experience, preferably within a diversified group, holding company, construction, real estate, hospitality, or multi-entity environment.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a managerial/supervisory accounting role.
  • Strong knowledge of general accounting principles and financial reporting.
  • Experience managing multiple entities and intercompany transactions is highly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and financial controls.
  • Experience working with external auditors and statutory reporting.
  • Strong Excel and financial reporting skills.
  • Experience with ERP/accounting systems.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder-management abilities.
  • Fluency in English and Arabic is preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
  • CPA, ACCA, CMA, or equivalent professional qualification is an advantage.
  • Experience in Iraq or the wider Middle East is strongly preferred.
  • Experience within a diversified group or holding company will be highly advantageous.
  • Exposure to real estate, construction, hospitality, or project-based accounting is an advantage.
